1 Books also appear listed in the category of the main animal.
2 Certain Poor Shepherds, The Book of the Dun Cow, and The Book of Sorrows are religious allegories.
Please see main entry (under Birds) for more on the latter two books.
3 Wild Animals I have Known, Pork and Others, Krag, the Kootenay Ram & other Stories,
Wild Animals of the Southwest and The Secret Herd are collections of short stories.
Pork and Others is particularly grim and depressing, and, while well-written, is not recommended for
children or the easily disturbed.
4 Sandeagozu gets a recommendation with qualifications-- it is unnecessarily gruesome in areas, but still
deserves notice as being one of the few books to feature snakes as sympathetic characters.
